What is VAT relief?

VAT relief allows chronically sick or disabled people to buy eligible items at 0% VAT, saving a considerable amount of money. The simplest way of purchasing items eligible for VAT relief is to shop online, were you can answer a series of simple questions to see if you qualify and then the discount is applied at checkout. If you choose to order by phone or post, we will send you a form which you will need to complete and return back to us in order to be considered eligible.

Who is eligible for VAT relief?

You, or the person who will be using the purchased goods must meet the following criteria to qualify for VAT relief:

  • You are chronically sick or disabled
  • You are buying the products for your own personal or domestic use

Things to Remember

  • Chums do NOT decide if an item is or isn't exempt
  • The details you provide are strictly confidential. They can only be viewed on our secure private company network and will be made securely available to HMRC should they request.
  • If you do not complete the VAT relief form, or if you are not eligible, we are obliged to charge you for the full VAT on the whole of your order.
  • Not all products are eligible for VAT relief so even after the form is completed, if the products do not qualify for relief, the full price including VAT will be charged.
  • There is no VAT imposed in the Channel Islands (Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm), therefore VAT Relief will not apply in these areas.
  • It is a criminal offence to make a false declaration.
