Getaways reimagined from your home

For many of us, going on holiday is something we look forward to each year, but with the latest announcement telling the nation to ‘be patient’, it seems likely that even domestic travel may be out of the question in 2021.

Although our holiday plans may be on hold for the foreseeable future, this doesn’t mean we can’t reimagine some of our favourite getaways from the comfort of our homes! The good  news is, there are ways you can still enjoy some of the delights of being on holiday while you’re at home.

We want to help you recreate those holiday moments as a way to get through these uncertain times. In this post, we look at four different types of holidays, the activities you can do and outfits you can wear to make it as realistic as possible.

Camping Trip

Camping Trip

One of the great things about camping is that it can easily be done at home. If you have a garden, you can set up camp outside, or you can simply pitch a tent in your living room - just ensure you have enough space and the surface is flat and smooth. You can also add LED lights around the tent and use folding chairs for that true camping trip experience.

To recreate this holiday at home, simply put this video on your TV screen to complete the reimagined getaway...

To give this an authentic camping feel, you could grill up some hot dogs or burgers and for a sweet treat, toast some marshmallows until they’re golden brown. Don’t forget your flask for a delicious hot cup of tea or coffee, and a cooler box to keep your food fresh.

Comfort is key when it comes to your camping outfit. For men, a pair of casual trousers, a shirt and some comfy shoes works well. A gilet makes a great layering piece if you’re camping in the garden. A loose fitted blouse, crop trousers and pair of slip on shoes is a great, comfy outfit for women.

City Escape

City escape

A city break is a firm favourite for many people looking for a getaway and there is such a variety to choose from. This type of holiday allows you to delve into the history, architecture, art, music and more of different places.

Thanks to tech and digital innovations, exploring a new city can still be done from the comfort of your own home. Check out this video to complete the experience...

Whether you want to view the collections at the British Museum, take a look around historical Roman baths, be blown away by York Minster’s architecture or learn about Scottish history at Edinburgh Castle, there are a host of virtual tours online that allow you to experience these cities like never before.

To recreate the casual city atmosphere through your outfit, an all-over print dress paired with a soft, plain cardigan is a stylish yet comfortable look for women. For men, a polo shirt and jeans is a cool and casual city break outfit.

Beach Break

Beach break

For many people, a beach holiday is the ultimate way to switch off from everyday life, soak up the sun and simply relax and recharge. This type of holiday may be a little harder to recreate at home, but there are still ways you can bring the beach to you. This video should help you to get in the mood...

One of the most notable things about the beach is the smell of the sea. You can buy candles, incense or essential oils in a variety of fragrances that will take you back to your fondest beach memories. If you have a favourite drink you like to enjoy on holiday, you can try to make your own version of this at home.

For men and women, a simple and relaxing outfit will help you recreate that beach holiday atmosphere. A T-shirt, shorts and sandals will be ideal, or you can opt for something a bit simpler - a bathrobe and slippers!

Countryside Retreat

Countryside Retreat

A trip to the countryside is a good way to blow away the cobwebs of everyday life. The British countryside is filled with ancient woodlands, rolling hills, winding country roads, quaint villages and plenty of fresh air - making it a great destination.

To channel those countryside vibes, take a look at this video...

You can recreate the peaceful and relaxing atmosphere that the countryside offers through taste and smell. Treat yourself to a delicious array of farmhouse cheeses or put together a traditional afternoon tea. A great way to bring the countryside into your home is by displaying fresh flowers, or alternatively you can light a floral scented candle.

For your countryside inspired outfit, men can wear a check shirt and a classic pair of corduroy trousers for a smart and comfortable look, while women can opt for a pair of cotton trousers and embroidered polo top teamed with a cosy fleece.

Hopefully these holiday scenes, tips and outfit suggestions can help you recreate some of your favourite destinations in the comfort of your own home. Don’t forget to share your reimagined getaways by using the hashtag  #GetawaysReimagined.
